The software you have purchased has no real value to it until the application is deployed. That’s when it really begins to deliver on its promise. Everything comes down to the moment the software can be used by its intended audience. And used successfully…
That being said, it just seems logical that the deployment of said software in an integral part of its overall success. However, many times, software deployment is simply regarded as a low level task that can be carried out by any member of your current IT Operations team.
However, according to a recent whitepaper entitled “ROI Study on Automated Application Deployments for the Enterprise,” research shows that on average, 28% of all server downtime is caused by configuration changes, upgrades and new software deployment.
Application deployment is tricky and unpredictable, which is the reason so many organizations resist upgrading or replacing existing software. This however, is unfortunate because it generally means that the company is not working with the most up to date products and this is more than likely impacting productivity without the company even being aware of it.
It’s obvious that you have an IT department to oversee the daily maintenance of current systems, but when it comes down to application deployment, many times you need to consult specialized experts to help get the job done. There’s no shame in that. In fact, you should be proud of the fact that you care enough about your organization to bring in the best support for your new products.
Just be prepared because implementation process can be a very short term project, or an ongoing, involved project. Just think about the advantage you will have over your competition though not only stay current and implement new software, but you do it without error or downtime.
