The 2011 IT silver lining

According to a survey completed by Dice.com, it appears that the IT forecast for 2011 is looking up.  Many companies are planning to increase staff by 10% or more. Here are some of the noteworthy facts results from the survey.

  • 29% of hiring managers say they’re paying more for new tech hires in 2010 than they did for last year’s recruits
  • 6 of 10 tech hirers/recruiters plan to hire more IT professionals in first-half 2011 than they did in second-half 2010.
  • 45% of respondents planning to add IT workers say they’ll increase hiring by at least 10 percent in first-half 2010
  • One-third of respondents who are planning to add IT workers expect to increase hiring by 11 percent to 20% in first-half 2010.
  • 46% of hiring managers/tech recruiters agree that filling positions is taking more time in 2010 than it did in 2009.
  • 46% of these hirers say that the inability to find qualified professionals is the main reason for the time delay in filling positions.
  • 39% of hirers say a sense of caution regarding the economy is the top reason for the time delay in filling positions.
  • 52% of hirers from enterprises say salaries for existing tech staff in 2010 are flat compared to 2009.
  • 40% of respondents say salaries for existing staff have risen slightly in 2010 compared to the prior year.
  • 29% of hiring managers say they’re paying more for new tech hires in 2010 than they did for last year’s recruits.
